Why pay for a resume? Resume tips and resume services abound. There’s a reason they stay in business. Yet, only 54% of adults in the 18-34 age range find employment. Add corporate downsizing and changes in the economy, and you see why employers receive hundreds, even thousands, of applications for one job. This holds true, even with an increase in jobs over the last few years.

Today’s job market demands that people show their talent quickly and efficiently.
  • Job searches are automated.
  • Resume sorting is automated.
  • Interviews are automated. (Yes, you read that right. You may find yourself talking to a machine.)
  • Many employers no longer accept paper resumes or applications.
  • Employment testing is done online, without ever seeing the applicants.
  • It’s common for one to three interviews to be done by machine, phone, or Skype, before finalists get a face-to-face interview.
Your resume is your first interview.

Your resume follows you through the entire pre-employment process. Then, it stays in your personnel file after you get hired. HR and managers review that piece of paper when it’s time for promotions too. What do you want in your personnel file five years from now? Don’t plan to overcome a shoddy resume when you meet in person. A poor resume guarantees you won’t get a foot in the door for an interview.
